No, that's not a typo. The Dwarfs of Warhammer prefer to go without a "-ves" on the end, thank you very much. Dwarfs are short and stout humanoids, much like dwarves from other fantasy worlds. Warhammer Dwarfs are proud warriors that fight with honor, with the occasional weakness for good alcohol. Magic is distrusted by Dwarfs. They believe it is too erratic, and definitely not trustworthy enough to depend on in a fight - not like a trustworthy hammer. The one exception to their loathing of magic is Runes, which they often scribe into their armor and weaponry. Warhammer Online even features a class dedicated to dispensing Runes in combat - the Runepriest.
The massive strongholds of the mountains were built by none other than the Dwarfs. Through time, some of the strongholds have fallen to Greenskin barrages and are now infested by the beasts. The Dwarfs, with much reluctancy, have allied themselves with the High Elves and Imperial humans to halt any further advance by the Greenskins.
