Me: First off, who is your favorite Transformer. If you answer Wheelie, so help me - this interview is OVER. |
Phantom: Tough question. I grew up with Transformers, probably my favorite toys of all time. So many that I liked, I think I'll go with Soundwave. I don't know why. I think it's the voice. |
Me: How did the name "Dark Regiment" come to be? |
Phantom: Well first off, believe it or not that name was established before we had any idea that "guilds" in Warhammer Online were going to be called "Regiments." So I apologize for the redundancy. Basically the founder of the guild (Rollins) and I were chatting about a name for our website/domain, and that was one I mentioned.
Rollins: I wanted to start a WAR guild back when WAR was first announced and wanted to start early. Well, I had just moved back from Pennsylvania and recently gotten back into contact with Phantom, a former coworker and was discussing this. While talking on the phone I told him of my plan and was having trouble coming up with a good guild name that the domain was still available. We went through several good names until Phantom finally called one out that the domain was still available on. I registered that night and here we are. |
Me: In 500 words or less, what faction is Dark Regiment planning on - Order, Destruction, both, or undecided - and why? Failure to stay under 500 words will result in death. |
Phantom: Currently we are planning on playing Destruction. We have typically started by playing other MMO's as the "good/pretty" races and I think many are ready to play something else. For me personally, I'm interested in most every Destruction class, but only 2 or 3 Order classes. Destruction should give me longer game life and replayability.
Rollins: Destruction. It seems the "good" or in this case the perceived good side always seems to far outnumber the darker classes. We wanted to be a force to be reckoned with and be on a server where the population distribution was more even. Also, Chaos, Orcs and Goblins are just cooler than anything Empire, High Elves and dwarves have to offer. I intentionally left out Dark Elves... |
Me: What type of guild is Dark Regiment? Hardcore? Casual? Elite? Moderate? Extraterrestrial? Somewhere in between? Something totally different? |
Phantom: I don’t prefer to label us a specific type of guild. We intentionally have a great mix of playstyles just in our leaders and officers, and hopefully that will also be reflected in our membership so almost everyone has a place in Dark Regiment. Many of us are fairly experienced RvR/PvP players. We will focus on that at endgame, but I imagine we'll take part in all WAR has to offer not JUST PvP. We're a group of fairly mature players looking to create a great guild atmosphere, but we take it seriously and hope to be a solid force on whatever server we're on. As well as build solid friendships and allies to get the job done.
Rollins: I think this is an area we will differentiate ourselves from other guilds. DR guild leadership is made up of a combination of types of people and this was planned to allow the guild to grow with a variety of member types and play-styles. I, Rollins, consider myself an overly efficient, hardcore player and I strive to compete with others for my own enjoyment. I put a heavy focus on PvP/RvR and I tend to make decisions quickly, but logically. I consider Phantom more of a casual, laid-back social player who would easily make friends and expand the guild through his social prowess. I met Bastyra through Phantom, but he has always seemed logical, laid-back, stable and a good sense of humor. I think this three guild-leader approach will help eliminate a lot of the common pitfalls that come with a sole leader in a guild. Another thing that most would not know is that Phantom and I both work for the DoD and the DR guild structure is modeled after the Army Organizational model. Since we are aiming solely at the more mature crowd for DR, I feel that this structured environment will make DR stand out in a positive way. |
Me: What one feature of WAR is Dark Regiment most looking forward to? |
Phantom: Gotta be Mythic's next vision of RvR, lots of DaoC vets here ready for something fresh, and ready to kill others.
Rollins: PvP. We enjoy exerting our dominance upon others. Enough said. |
Me: Choose one word that best describes Dark Regiment. |
Phantom: Dominate.
Rollins: Structured. |
Me: Who's your favorite EA Mythic personality? |
Phantom: This is tough as well. I'm going to say Adam Gershowitz mainly because I (and you as well) got to speak with him at the Chicago Gamesday, and he was super friendly and answered a lot of our questions. |
Me: How big is Dark Regiment currently? |
Phantom: We have over 40 people currently signed up on our website, and I know we recruited quite a bit more in game from beta that never made it to the site. We actually will be limiting guild size to no more than 75 active people. We are shooting for a lower number of solid players and a tight knit group instead of being a mega guild with hundreds of players, but 75 should still be more than enough to enjoy any content WAR has to offer us. We feel we can accomplish more this way. With probably about 6 months or so left until release, I think we’re off to a great start already, and we have some extra time to recruit even more people. We have a custom website, Ventrilo server, and will address any other needs as they arise to serve the guild best we can.
Me: Is Dark Regiment recruiting? If so, where and how can would-be Dark Regimenters apply at? |
Phantom: Yes we certainly are! We prefer to meet folks in game and play with them some before officially recruiting them, and we have been fortunate enough to get many of our members into the WAR beta. We have been recruiting more as we meet new people, and it has gone quite well. Until release we will have more "open" or lenient recruitment, and members will be on a provisional basis as we get to know each other. We will be sorting out new recruits and refining membership the closer we get to release, to try to create a solid guild that we feel will mesh well together and minimize drama. For anyone interested in our guild, please visit our website (www.darkregiment.net) and post an application in the forums! We’ll review it and if accepted your account will be approved for full forum access for the guild member boards. No, you do not HAVE to currently be in beta to join us...anyone can apply at this time. Feel free to read over our guild charter to see if we might be the guild you are looking for, or contact me with any questions you have. Email: phantom(at)darkregiment.net
Rollins: We are currently allowing players into DR on a provisional basis. Final membership will be determined prior to retail. If interested in Dark Regiment, you can read our guild charter at darkregiment.net To join DR, you contact anyone listed on the guild roster at the same site address in-game for further details. Upon release, DR will be an invitation only guild. To potentially receive an invitation, you should play with DR members and get to know them and vice versa. Express interest by all means, but do not be annoying about it. You will be contacted if we feel you are what we are looking for. |
Me: Last but not least, if Superman and Godzilla fought, who would win? |
Phantom: Assuming Godzilla hasn't recently eaten a snack of Kryptonite, Superman hands down.
Rollins: Superman. |
I've had the pleasure of playing with Dark Regiment recently - they are a great group of dedicated folks. If you're looking for a guild, definitely look them up, they've got the Warhammer Info Seal of ApprovalTM. Head over to their site at darkregiment.net to find out more.
