Some info on the King Encounters:
Q:Are the King fights the equivalent of raids in other MMORPGs?
Comparing City Sieges vs. WoW or DAoC won't be easy because a CS is not supposed to be an event that happens every day or even every week. Being able to take a city is a major event that requires lots of effort by the opposing realm. The taking of a city is not the same as a raid, taking a keep, etc. it really is an epic and rare event.

Q:So wait, is the King fight a part of the city siege or does it actually take place afterward?
There are things that do respawn that you can do over and over and those are for the people that not only break down the gates but for the people that log in 5 hours later and go "Oh my God we captured the city!" And they can run in and take part in that now. That's why we keep the city captured for an extended period of time so that those people who login in the morning and see the Dwarven capital city is captured can go in and try and attack the King.
Q:Why did you decide to allow the King to be killed more than once per city capture?
Imagine the letdown that people would experience if they spent weeks helping their side take a city and then, because they were too low level, little to slow to get to the right spot, didn't have great hardware or for whatever reason, they didn't have the option to try to take down the city's ruler because it was a PQ, non-instanced, non-repeatable, etc.

Q:Is the King encounter an instance or an open encounter?
The King encounter is one of the biggest exceptions to the rule of 6 men [for instances in WAR], it's a 24 man instance.
Q:How difficult is the King encounter compared to the other instances and encounters in the game?
The King is designed as the highest level, most difficult encounter in our game. In order to be successful with the king you need to either be really good, progress through the PvE game, in other words going through [PvE dungeons] so you are in the best gear in the game in some mad hope that you can defeat the emperor Karl Franz.
Q:Alright so I get the King is hard, but will a PUG be able to handle him or do you need an "elite" raiding guild?
Unlike other games, including DAoC, they wouldn't just brush it off, form a new PUG and go for it again that night or the next day.
Q:I thought WAR is suppose to be all about RvR; how can you possibly claim that is the case when the King fight is a PvE instance?
WAR's endgame revolves around the CSs and we will do whatever we need to do to make them challenging and great fun at the same time. If that means putting some instanced parts, PQ, whatever and moving *some* bits away from Open RvR, we'll do it.
Q:I'm not sure I like the way the King encounter is set up at this point in time, is there any chance it could change?
Is the KF encounter set in stone? Nope, not even close. We will do what we need to do to make it great, fun and fair. |

It seems to be a tough balance. RvR to get to a city siege, then it goes to a PVE instance. It seems to be sort of a let down, but I do agree that it would be EVEN MORE of a let down if I missed out on a CS after putting weeks/months into getting to that point.
I expect launching a city siege it to be something like the war effort in WoW to get the AQ gates opened. I doubt it will be such a nightmare of a grindfest, but opening the gate took so much effort from the whole server that it was a cool thing to experience, once. Hopefully, the CS will be something more enjoyable than collecting insect skins, night after night for weeks on end. |
