Warhammer Info - Quests
Before you do anything, Mythic created a flash animation explaining quests. You should click here and watch it.
Warhammer Online quests take place on both the PvE and PvP fronts. Each quest is classified as either green (PvE), yellow (possible PvP), or red (PvP). In addition to standard solo quests, quests are further divided into three other types:
- Branching Quests
- Public Quests
- Christmas Quests
Branching quests are similar to traditional RPG quests, however the player can choose to alter the outcome of the quest. For example, players could return a quest item to an NPC or choose to simply sell it for some cash. The rewards for the quest would obviously change depending on which path the player undertakes. Returning to our example, returning the item would result in experience gain and selling the item would result in additional cash.
Public quests are zone wide quests that everyone can take place in. Upon entering a public quest area, a player is notified of the current public quest and can choose to participate if he/she wishes. Public quests are often multiple step endeavors and can take quite awhile. The first step is often solo oriented. Whether the participants are grouped up together or not, everyone works towards a common goal. For example, one public quest for Greenskins has them assaulting a forest and cutting it down for timber. The first step is to drive off the annoying dryads trying to stop you. Any player can kill the dryads - and their kill count will benefit everyone else on the public quest. But as the quest progresses, you will most likely need to group up with your fellow players - or at least work in a coordinated effort. Most public quests culminate in a final battle. For example, after cutting down a good portion of the forest, the Dryads form together to create a beastly looking treant that the Greenskins must group together in order to defeat. Throughout the public quest, each player is awarded Influence which measures their personal contribution to the quest. All participants are rewarded upon quest success - the amount of Influence you have accumulated determines what type of reward you get and your chance of winning the best rewards from the final battle.
Christmas quests are rare quests that reward a player for being adventerous and simply exploring the Warhammer world. They generally give great rewards for very little work. Kind of like Christmas.
In all, Mythic is aiming to have around 2000-3000 different quests in the game at launch. Yea, you're not going to be bored.
On top of all this, questing in Warhammer Online is a bit different than what you've seen in other MMOs. The Tome of Knowledge applies a red circle over the area you need to head to for the next step of the quest, so you won't have to be ALT+TAB-ing out of the game to find where you need to head to next. The game also remembers everything that you've done. For example, most typical MMOs treat the quest system as the starting point of a quest. You could have killed black bears for days, but if you run across an NPC giving a "kill black bears" quest, you'll have to march back out there and kill the black bears again. In Warhammer Online, the NPC will just simply say, "Hey, I see that you've been killing black bears. Good, I needed them dead. Here's your reward."

The movie "Glitter"(2001) with Mariah Carey is exceptionally crappy.
